Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish 1st Release is a single malt from the 1990s, bottled at 46.5% ABV. It was the first release of the Port Wood, which came out at this higher strength.
The whisky was matured for at least 12 years in American oak casks, then finished in port pipes for a few years longer. The colour is a reddish coppery amber.
The nose combines sweet and musty port aromas with prunes, cherry cola and aged wood. On the palate come dark demerara sugar, floral vanilla, sherry raisin and black cherry, then sandalwood, oak and dry hatbox. The finish is long, sweet-sour and woody, with a dry, vermouth-like quality and notes of dessert wine, pepper, orange peel and marzipan.
