Glenrothes Whisky Maker's Cut (48.8%)

This is a Speyside single malt from The Glenrothes, released as the Whisky Maker's Cut in the Soleo Collection and bottled at 48.8%. The collection moves away from age statements, and every expression in it is matured entirely in sherry casks. This one uses first-fill sherry casks chosen by Gordon Motion, the distillery's whisky maker, and is bottled at the strength he prefers. The colour is natural. The nose is fresh oak, almost resinous. The palate is rich and spicy with creamy vanilla and orange peel, and the finish is very fruity, with orange and a touch of nutmeg.
