This is a Caol Ila single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Islay, distilled in 2008 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in its Connoisseurs Choice range. It is a cask strength bottling at 54.5% ABV.
The whisky spent 16 years in a refill sherry butt, which sets Caol Ila's coastal peat smoke alongside stewed fruit and oak spice.
On the nose, smoked bacon and gentle peat meet stewed orchard fruit and citrus peel. The palate brings spiced apple, butterscotch, orange zest and charred oak over a savoury smoky undertone. The finish is long and warming, with ash, oak spice, citrus zest and lingering sweetness.
