This is a 25-year-old Speyside single malt from Mortlach, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in its Distillery Labels series, which uses historical branding to mark the bottler's relationship with the distillery. It comes in a 75cl bottle.
The whisky was matured in a combination of first-fill and refill sherry casks.
The nose is rich with sherry, rum-soaked dried fruit, figs and plums, with ginger, cloves, orange peel, walnuts and a hint of beeswax polish. The palate sets Mortlach's savoury, meaty character against sweet sherry, stewed summer berries, dark chocolate raisins and dates. The finish is long, warming and fruity, with toasted almonds and dark chocolate.
