Hakushu 12 Year Old is a Japanese single malt from the distillery founded in 1973 by Keizo Saji, who also founded Yamazaki. It stands in the southern Japanese Alps, near Mount Kaikomagatake, and its soft water is filtered through ancient granite. The whisky is a blend of first-fill bourbon casks. It was distilled in direct-fired stills and matured for 12 years in small white oak casks. The style is herbal and lightly peated. Green leaves and fruit come through on the nose, with a soft, smooth smoke.
