I.W. Harper Gold Medal is a Kentucky straight bourbon made at the Heaven Hill Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The brand was founded by Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, who combined his initials with the name of his friend Frank Harper. Its Gold Medal name comes from a gold medal won at the 1885 New Orleans Exposition.
The mash bill has a corn content of over 86%, and the whiskey is aged in new charred American oak barrels.
The nose is sweet and honeyed with vanilla, caramel and a touch of oak. The palate has a smooth entry and gentle warmth, and the finish is lingering, sweet and slightly spicy.
