Old Forester 100 Proof is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 50% ABV in a 1.75-litre bottle. It is made by Brown-Forman from a mashbill of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley, and goes into new charred oak barrels at 125 proof.
The whisky is about four years old. It is matured in warehouses that are heated through the winter and then left to cool, a cycle that pushes the spirit further into the wood.
The nose brings butterscotch, caramel, cherry and toasted oak, with cinnamon and orange zest beneath. The palate is honeyed, with brown sugar, apple and cinnamon spice from the rye. The finish is long and spicy, with wood, vanilla and citrus peel.
