This is the 2019 release of Chichibu On The Way, a single malt from Ichiro's Malt, bottled at 51.5% in a 70cl bottle. The On The Way releases mark the distillery's progress towards its first ten-year-old single malt, which arrived in 2020. Chichibu began making whisky in 2008.
The whisky was bottled in 2019, with 11,000 bottles released. It is a vatting of 52 casks aged between five and ten years, mostly first-fill ex-bourbon, with some second-fill Chibidaru casks and hogsheads fitted with Mizunara (Japanese oak) heads.
It is described as fresh and fruity, with green apples, ripe grapes and pineapple with coconut cream, plus a hint of subtle earthiness.
