Ilegal Mezcal Reposado

Ilegal Reposado is a mezcal made in Oaxaca, Mexico, from sustainably sourced espadin agave using slow, artisanal methods. It spends four months in medium-charred 200-litre ex-Bourbon casks, long enough to take on character from the wood while keeping the agave at the centre. Every bottle is stoppered, labelled and numbered by hand. The brand's name recalls the owner John Rexer's days carrying mezcal across the border into Guatemala for his bar. Clove, caramel and vanilla sit alongside the agave, with a gentle tang from the casks. It is soft and approachable, suited to sipping slowly or mixing in cocktails.
