A 28-year-old Inchgower, a Speyside single malt matured for its whole life in a refill bourbon hogshead. It is bottled at 56.6% ABV in a 35cl bottle.
The hogshead had held whisky before, which leaves the spirit's own character plenty of room over those twenty-eight years.
The nose offers ripe pear, yellow apple and candied lemon peel with vanilla and light honey, then toasted almonds, beeswax and a faint saltiness. The palate is full and slightly oily, with yellow fruit, toffee, malty sweetness and white pepper, and a grapefruit-peel bitterness. The finish is long, with oak spice, almonds and citrus, ending dry.
