This is Johnnie Walker Black Label Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky, a blend from John Walker & Sons of Kilmarnock. It comes in the round bottle used in the 1960s. The nose combines coal soot, dry peat and a slightly industrial machine-oil character with molasses, brown sugar, wild honey and a Christmas cake full of raisins and prunes. Old tobacco box, tanned leather and furniture wax sit underneath. The palate is waxy, robust and full-bodied, with earthy, salty peat smoke, black pepper and dry herbs. The finish is long and dry, with polished oak, tobacco and a warm smoke.
