Johnnie Walker & Sons XR 23 Year Old is a blended Scotch whisky bottled at 40%, with a 23-year age statement. It was created as a tribute to Sir Alexander Walker II, grandson of the brand's founder, and drawn from casks laid down during his stewardship. Some of the casks come from the now-closed Brora distillery. XR stands for Extra Rare.
The nose has honeyed vanilla, dried fruit and warm caramel with polished oak and a touch of smoke. On the palate there is spiced toffee, figs, orange peel and a little dark chocolate. The finish is long and warming, with sweet smoke and oak.
