Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique is a Taiwanese single malt from the Kavalan Distillery, bottled at 57.1% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is matured entirely in used American oak wine casks that have been toasted and re-charred.
In 2015 it was named the world's best single malt at the World Whiskies Awards.
The nose is full of plum jam, grape jelly and blueberries, with a hint of vanilla and oak. On the palate are rich, concentrated dark fruit, plums and grapes, with blueberries and a gentle sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with lingering fruit and a touch of spice.
