Kilbeggan – Black Irish Whiskey (70cl, 40%)

A blended Irish whiskey in the core range of Kilbeggan Distillery, which was founded in 1757. It is a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV (80 proof). Unlike most Irish whiskeys, it is double-distilled rather than triple-distilled, in copper pot stills, one of them over 180 years old. A small amount of peated malt is included, and the whiskey is matured in ex-bourbon casks. The nose offers ripe apples and pears, creamy butterscotch and a delicate hint of peat smoke. The palate is mellow, with green fruits and cereal developing into soft, earthy smoke. The finish is medium to long, with lingering smoke and gentle baking spices.
