Kilchoman Casado is a 2022 edition of Islay single malt, bottled at 46% and peated to 50 ppm. Six-year-old malt from 38 first-fill ex-bourbon casks was moved for two further years into two 6,000-litre vats that had held Portuguese red wine. The edition is 12,900 bottles.
The nose is intense campfire smoke with summer fruit, then marzipan and a maritime hint. The palate opens with pepper and spice, followed by dry, salty peat smoke and ripe apricot and citrus. The long finish carries the jammy sweetness of the red wine vats, set against the smoke.
