Kilchoman – Sanaig Cask Strength (57.8%)

Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength is an Islay single malt, a limited edition bottled at 57.8%. It follows the Sanaig recipe of bourbon and sherry casks, and the higher strength brings out the Oloroso influence, giving peat smoke and stewed fruit. The nose is full of barbecue notes: grilled meat, bacon, smoked paprika, charcoal and fresh tar, with earthy, farmyard tones. The palate is thick and oily, with soot, smouldering coals and ground pepper, alongside blackberries, plums, nutmeg and iodine. The finish is lasting, with blackcurrant, liquorice and a slight sulphurous note.
