Kingsbarns – Balcomie (70cl, 46%)

Kingsbarns Balcomie is a single malt from a farm-to-bottle distillery in the East Neuk of Fife. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle and is non-chill filtered. The spirit is distilled in copper pot stills with a relatively high cut point, and is mainly matured in STR red wine barriques, meaning casks that have been shaved, toasted and re-charred. The nose has red berries, orange marmalade and toffee apple, with vanilla custard and a hint of the coast. The palate brings caramel and butterscotch with poached pears, red fruits and milk chocolate, alongside light salinity and gentle oak spice. The finish is medium to long, with sweet malt, dried fruits and a maritime freshness.
