Kujira Ryukyu 24 Year Old is a Japanese whisky made entirely from rice by Kumesen Shuzo in Okinawa, at the southern tip of Japan. It is a small batch release, matured for more than 24 years in first fill bourbon barrels.
Kumesen Shuzo has operated since 1952 and is best known for awamori. It began experimenting with whisky in 1989.
The nose shows herbs, dried plum, prune and mint candy. The palate is sweet, with chocolate, vanilla, spice and light smoky woodiness. The finish is long, with liquorice and Japanese pepper.
