This is the 2022 Special Release of Lagavulin 12 Year Old, a heavily peated single malt from Islay, in a 20cl bottle at 57.3% ABV.
It was matured in refill American oak and virgin oak casks. The release belongs to the Elusive Expressions theme, which draws on an Islay legend of a phoenix rising from scorched ground.
The nose is intense peat smoke, charcoal and a maritime note. The palate is oily and sweet, with citrus fruit, sea salt and firm peat smoke. The finish is long, with peat smoke and spice.
