Lagavulin 12 Year Old Special Release 2022 is an Islay single malt from Diageo's annual special releases. The blending team chose very smoky casks, using phenol measurements taken as each cask is filled to pick out the extra-smoky whiskies.
Whisky from new oak was also added to the blend. This brings further layers of spice to a whisky that is already heavily peated and smoky.
