Lagavulin 12 Year Old is the 2023 Special Release, a cask strength Islay single malt from the Diageo Special Releases collection, whose 2023 theme was Elusive Expressions. It is non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose has big peat smoke with fresh maritime notes, lemon, green apple, a touch of sea salt, subtle medicinal notes and freshly cut oak. The palate is oily and powerful, smoky and mineral with salty sea air, balanced by citrus, white pepper and a fine sweetness of vanilla and caramel. The finish is very long and warming, with lingering smoke, salty spray and sweetness set against dry, spicy oak.
