This Lagavulin 12 Year Old is the 2023 Diageo Special Releases bottling, called The Ink of Legends, at 56.4% in a 70cl bottle. It was finished in Don Julio Añejo Tequila casks, a first for Lagavulin, which adds agave sweetness and warmth to the smoky Islay character.
The nose has intense peat smoke, lime, green herbs, roasted agave, vanilla and salty sea air. On the palate, full smoke meets citrus peel, pepper, wood spice and sweet agave. The finish is long, smoky and dry, with spice, lemon and slightly sweet oak.
