Lagavulin 16 Year Old is an Islay single malt matured for sixteen years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. It is bottled at 43% ABV. Lagavulin was founded in 1816 on the south coast of the island.
The nose combines peat smoke and sea air, with burning driftwood, iodine and seaweed. Behind the smoke sits a warm sweetness from the sherry casks, in ripe fruit and vanilla.
On the palate the texture is rich and almost oily, with peat smoke, malt and dried figs, then black tea and oak. The finish is long and warm, ending dry with cocoa and sea salt.
