This is Lagavulin 1996 Distillers Edition, an Islay single malt bottled in 2012 at 43% ABV as batch 4/500. It is double matured, finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and has a deep amber colour with mahogany glints.
The nose combines intense peat, vanilla and raisiny sweetness with crisp, roasty malt. On the palate it is sweet and luscious, with clear malt, smoke, a salty tang, coffee, vanilla and fruit. The finish is very long, with fruit, peat and lasting oak.
