A 26 year old Islay single malt from Lagavulin, issued as part of the 2021 Special Release. It is the first 26 year old the distillery has released.
The whisky was matured in first-fill Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. It has a medium body and the colour of beech leaves in autumn.
The nose is winey and woody, with peat smoke, cooked figs, polished mahogany and dried seaweed. On the palate it is light and oily, with a brief sweetness giving way to salt, pepper and smoke. The finish is long, sweet and gently smoky.
Tasting Notes
Dark, winey and woody, with peat smoke, cooked figs, linseed oil, polished mahogany, dried seaweed and caramel; later more pungent smoke, rope and boat engine
Light, ultra-smooth and oily; brief sweetness turning salty and peppery, increasingly savoury and smoky
Long, gently sweet and slightly smoky, like smouldering beech leaves
