This is an 8 year old Islay single malt from Lagavulin, released as a limited edition for the distillery's 200th anniversary. It is bottled at 48%.
It was matured in refill European and American oak, and has a pale straw colour. The style is smoky and sharp, with peat and citrus to the fore.
The nose combines dry peat smoke and charcoal dust with sea spray, oyster shell, lemon zest and grapefruit pith, and a little vanilla and barley sugar. The palate is smoky, with bonfire ash, citrus oil, brine and white pepper, and sweetness arriving slowly. The finish is long and dry, with ash, salt and citrus peel.
