This is an eight-year-old Islay single malt from Lagavulin, released to mark 200 years since John Johnston founded the distillery in 1816. It is bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle.
The release draws on Alfred Barnard's visit to the distillery in the 1880s, when he tried an eight-year-old he called 'exceptionally fine'.
The nose brings tea-scented smoke and maritime notes, with a little lemon and milk chocolate, and a trace of red berry preserve once water is added. The palate is sweet, smoky and warming, with mint, dark chocolate and salty baked potato skins. The finish is long and smoky, with minted smoke around chocolate tannins.
