Lagg Quarter Casks Small Batch is a heavily peated single malt from the Lagg distillery on the Isle of Arran. It is the distillery's first small batch matured entirely in quarter casks, chosen by distillery manager Graham Omand.
The whisky spent six years in 125-litre quarter casks made from former bourbon barrels. The malt was peated to 50 ppm and the barley is Concerto. It is bottled at 56%, without chill-filtering or added colour.
The nose brings sweet peat, creamy vanilla, butterscotch and toasted oak, with citrus peel, orchard fruit, sea spray and charred driftwood beneath. The palate is rich and oily, with vanilla fudge, earthy peat smoke, black pepper and dark chocolate. The finish is long, warming and smoky.
