Lalocura Tobasiche Espadín Eduardo Ángeles Clay Pot Distilled Agave Spirit (50cl, 47.9%)

Lalocura Tobasiche-Espadín is a clay pot distilled agave spirit from Santa Catarina Minas in Oaxaca, made by Eduardo 'Lalo' Ángeles, a fourth-generation distiller who began the Lalocura project in 2014. This bottle is 47.9% vol in a 50cl size. It is an ensamble of two agaves: Tobasiche (Agave karwinskii), which brings woody, angular flavours, and Espadín (Agave angustifolia), which gives a broad sweet base. They are roasted together over encino oak in a conical pit oven, mashed by hand with wooden mallets, fermented in Mexican cypress tanks with wild yeast and spring water, then double distilled in clay pots. Strength is set only by returning puntas and colas, never water, so it varies from batch to batch. On the nose come citrus, sweet fig and pine over earthy funk. The palate is bright, with raspberry and lime, then mineral and smoke, leading to a long dry finish.
