Laphroaig 15 Year Old is an Islay single malt bottled at 46% ABV after 15 years in American ex-bourbon casks. It first appeared in 1985 and disappeared from shelves around 2009. It has now returned to the permanent range.
It combines peat smoke and sea salt with fresh citrus, grapefruit, soft vanilla and warm spices.
The nose opens with orange peel, grapefruit, dried hay, vanilla and a little clove over peat smoke. The palate is full and oily, with peat smoke, sea salt, black pepper, juicy peach and ripe grapefruit. The finish is long, smoky and maritime, with lasting saltiness and spice.
