This is the 2019 release of Laphroaig 25 Year Old, an Islay single malt bottled at natural cask strength.
It spent 25 years in ex-bourbon barrels and large Oloroso sherry casks. The long maturation softens the medicinal peat smoke the distillery is known for, leaving a richer and smoother character with sweetness and spice from the oak.
The notes run to creamy vanilla from the American oak and spiced apples, with gentle sweetness from the sherry casks, and a long, smooth finish.
