This is a 25-year-old Laphroaig distillery bottling from the Cask Strength Edition. The whisky is from the 1986 vintage, was finished in Oloroso casks and was bottled in 2011 at 48.6% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. Laphroaig stands on the Hebridean island of Islay.
The nose has a firm vanilla note that cuts through the distillery's typical charcoal, with a coastal edge and sweet honey, apricots, fresh cloves, heather, grapes, bourbon vanilla and tobacco.
On the palate it is lightly peaty, with vanilla, blackcurrants, aniseed and some apples, in a full, oily and velvety texture. The finish is long, slightly spicy and dusty-smoky to the end.
