Laphroaig 9 Year Old 2011 - The Octave (Duncan Taylor) (54.7%)

This is a single cask Islay malt from Laphroaig, aged nine years and bottled by Duncan Taylor as part of its Octave series. It comes from cask 5628745 at a natural cask strength of 54.7% ABV, and only 78 bottles were filled. After its first maturation, the whisky spent five months in a small sherry octave cask, about a quarter the size of a standard cask. The smaller cask intensifies the wood influence and speeds up flavour development. The character is medicinal peat smoke with nutty notes and the dried fruit sweetness of the sherry finish.
