Laphroaig – Quarter Cask

This is a Laphroaig single malt finished in quarter casks, a small cask size once used for Scotch whisky in the 19th century. The smaller cask gives up to 30% more contact with the wood than some larger sizes. Laphroaig that was already maturing in larger barrels was moved into quarter casks, then matured further in Dunnage Warehouse No. 1. It was barrier-filtered and bottled at a higher strength. It starts with a soft sweetness and a velvety feel, before the intense Laphroaig peat comes through. The finish is very long, alternating between sweetness and peat.
