This is Laphroaig Quarter Cask, an Islay single malt bottled at 48%. The whisky is matured in two stages in American oak: first in Laphroaig's usual ex-bourbon casks, then in smaller quarter casks, which bring more contact with the wood.
The nose is smouldering bonfire and citrus, with light coconut and vanilla behind. The palate opens with soft, sweet malt, then plenty of smoke and salty notes with hints of seaweed. It takes a few drops of water well.
