Laphroaig – Quarter Cask (70cl, 48%)

This is Laphroaig Quarter Cask, an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle at 48% ABV. After its first maturation, the whisky is matured a second time in smaller quarter casks, which bring the spirit into closer contact with the oak. The extra wood adds soft vanilla and a richer structure, while the distillery's smoke stays clearly present. The nose is peat smoke, sea air and medicinal notes, with vanilla, sweet malt and toasted wood. The palate is full and intense, with peat smoke, earthy tones and a salty undertone, balanced by sweet vanilla and caramel. The finish is long and warming, with lingering smoke, spiced wood and a subtle sweetness.
