This is a 15 year old Ledaig, the heavily peated malt made at Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull. It was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2024 by Murray McDavid for its Benchmark series, at 53.2% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matured in bourbon hogsheads, then spent two years in first-fill tawny port casks from Caves de Murça in Portugal's Douro Valley. Five casks gave 1,547 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The nose combines smoke, floral hints, mixed berries and a coastal note. On the palate, salty peat and flint meet plum and berry jam. The finish is oily, with fruity barley and lingering smoke.
