Lindores MCDXCIV is a Lowland single malt, the first commercially available whisky from Lindores Abbey, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. The abbey is recognised as the site of the first recorded distillation of Scotch whisky, in 1494, when King James IV commissioned Brother John Cor to make aqua vitae from eight bolls of malt. It was aged in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and STR ex-Burgundy red wine casks. The nose is malty and crisp, with sherried spice, toffee, hazelnut, condensed milk and orchard fruit. The palate is viscous, with nutmeg, clove, black pepper, caramel and cooked apple, then marzipan and pears poached in red wine. The finish is medium in length, with drying oak, anise and peppermint.
