Lindores Abbey – The Casks of Lindores STR Wine Cask (70cl)

This is a Lowland single malt from Lindores Abbey, in a 70cl bottle. It is the second release in The Casks of Lindores series, matured in STR casks. STR stands for shaved, toasted and re-charred: mostly former wine casks, scraped back on the inside, toasted and charred again. The whisky is red copper to dark gold in colour. The nose offers wood spices, red fruit with strawberry tart, fresh herbs and a pinch of cocoa powder. On the palate come blackberries and gooseberries with menthol and mint, then chocolate ice cream with honey, and chocolate truffle with icing sugar. The finish is not heavy, with honey, spices and caramel.
