Long John McDonald Special Reserve is a 12 year old Scotch whisky, distilled, blended and bottled in Scotland by Long John Distilleries of Dumbarton. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle, and the label carries the date 1825.
The nose is rich and complex, with raisins, sherry and malt, then caramel, toasted oak, vanilla and a faint background of ash or smoke. The palate is soft but full-bodied, with malty sweetness set against herbal notes, mint, cardamom and ripe fruit, and a light touch of peat smoke.
The finish is clean and dry, medium to short, with a salty trace, fresh grass and the lingering sweetness of raisins.
