Macallan – 1861 Replica (70cl, 42.7%)

This is a replica of the Macallan bottling of 1861, a Speyside single malt in a 70cl bottle at 42.7% ABV. Both the design and the flavour were modelled on the original, with old samples used as the reference for the relaunch. It was bottled in 2002, matured mainly in sherry casks, and the series was limited to 17,000 bottles worldwide. The nose is malty and fruity, with vanilla custard, rose water, syrup and sherry. On the palate there is intense sherry sweetness and orange peel, with fruit in the background. The finish is long, with caramel and dried fruit.
