This is a 25 year old Macallan Anniversary Malt, distilled in 1968 and bottled in 1994 at 43% ABV. It dates from the period when Macallan took control of its own bottlings and refreshed its range.
The whisky was matured entirely in sherry casks.
The nose is classic sherry, with juicy plums, figs, dates, chocolate-covered raisins, toffee, butterscotch, a hint of balsamic vinegar and a faint dusty smoke. On the palate there is cinnamon, toffee and cedar, with Christmas cake, mint praline, espresso, candied orange and roasted chestnuts. The finish is medium in length, with toasted dryness, white pepper and a little nutmeg.
