Macallan – Classic Cut 2023 Edition (70cl, 50.3%)

Classic Cut 2023 is the seventh annual release in The Macallan's Classic Cut series, a Speyside single malt bottled in 2023 at 50.3%, with natural colour and no chill-filtering. It combines American oak ex-bourbon casks with European oak casks that were seasoned with sherry before the whisky went in. Its character shifts with strength. At full strength fresh pear comes forward, while a little water to about 40% brings out almond sponge. Whisky maker Diane Stuart chose both strengths for these different impressions. The nose has pear and elderflower with a fine almond note and vanilla pod. On the palate, sweet creamy vanilla, juicy pear and lemon peel meet gentle oak. The medium finish ends on sweet oak and almond sponge.
