Mackmyra Björksav is a Swedish single malt released as a spring edition, with 15,000 bottles produced for its March 2021 launch. It is bottled at 46.1% ABV in a 70cl bottle, unpeated and non-chill filtered.
Part of the whisky matured in casks that previously held birch sap wine from the winery Grythyttan Vin. Birch sap is harvested only once a year, in March, and björksav means birch sap in Swedish. The rest matured in ex-bourbon casks and oloroso-seasoned American oak.
The nose is floral and fruity, with vanilla fudge, sandalwood, cedar and toasted bread. The palate brings fresh fruit, raisins, apple, pear, lemon, anise, white pepper and ginger. The finish is light and spicy, with toasted oak and dried fruit.
