Maiz Nation Rye Whiskey (70cl, 44%)

Maiz Nation Rye Whiskey is a Mexican rye, grown, mashed and distilled entirely in Mexico. The rye is cultivated at nearly 10,000 feet in the cloud forests of the Sierra Madre, and the spirit is made at the solar-powered SolCraft Distillery in Oaxaca. It is distilled slowly on small copper pot alembics, proofed with rainwater and bottled at 44% ABV without chill filtration, in a 70cl bottle. Jonathan Barbieri is the master distiller behind it. In the glass, the tasting notes describe spicy, peppery rye with toasted, bready grain, caramel and tropical citrus fruit beneath, and vanilla and fresh oak from the barrel. It finishes with black pepper and herbal spice.
