The Original is the 5 year old peated single malt from Meikle Toir. It is made with St. Fergus mainland peat, which gives a sweeter peat character than coastal peat would. The spirit is peated to 35 PPM and fermented for 160 hours, close to four times the industry average.
It was aged in first-fill bourbon barrels, American virgin oak casks and rye barrels.
The nose has baking spices, burnt honey and roasted coffee beans, leading to hazelnuts, smoked almonds and butterscotch. The palate shows wisps of sweet peat with rich chocolate and heather honey, followed by cinnamon, ginger and oak-smoked sugar.
