Michel Couvreur Candid Malt Whisky (70cl, 49%)

Candid is a malt whisky from Michel Couvreur, bottled at 49% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The distillate comes from Scotland and spent its whole maturation in 250-litre Pedro Ximénez casks, which soften the strong peat character into a smoky sherried whisky. The nose is lightly peaty and sweet, with caramel, burnt almonds, candyfloss, delicate blossom, chocolate and gingerbread, and a herbal note develops with time. The palate opens sweet, then lightly dry sherry and some peat follow, with malt, oak, bitter almond, orange zest and a hint of sulphur in an oily texture.
