Millstone Special No. 28 is a five-year-old Dutch single malt made from heavily peated malt and matured entirely in tawny port casks. It was distilled on 2 July 2018 and bottled on 8 September 2023 at 46%, in an edition of 3,520 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The smoke comes from the peated malt, which had a phenol content of 50 ppm, while the port casks add colour and fruit. The spirit is distilled slowly, twice, after a seven-day fermentation.
Balanced smoke leads the nose, with fresh red fruit and citrus. The palate pairs elegant peat with orange marmalade, and the finish is long and rich with gentle smoke.
