This is a 13 year old Mortlach single malt from the 2021 Special Release. Mortlach is known as The Beast of Dufftown, and its spirit is distilled 2.81 times through six stills. The whisky is full gold in colour, with a medium to full body.
The nose is round and doughy, with freshly oiled wood, savoury meaty notes, game and roast with redcurrant jam, then peat, heather pollen and spice. Water brings out a sweet, fruity note with a citrus finish.
On the palate the texture is big and very soft, with vanilla sweetness giving way to dry, savoury spice, new oak and a touch of chilli on the swallow. The finish is long, with fruit and pepper warmth.
