This is a 46-year-old Speyside single malt from Mortlach, distilled in 1974 and bottled in 2020 by Gordon & MacPhail for its Private Collection. It is a single cask release in a 70cl bottle at 50.9% ABV.
The whisky was matured in a refill sherry butt, number 8254, which yielded 197 bottles.
The nose opens with sherry, followed by brown sugar, rum and raisin and warm spices. On the palate are stewed spiced damsons with fig and apricot conserve, then Seville orange peel and charred oak. The finish is long, sweet and spicy, with lingering roasted hazelnuts.
